Place where Calixto García Íñiguez attempted suicide before being taken prisoner by the Spanish.
Located in the current community of San Antonio de Baja, belonging to the Canabacoa Popular Council, rural area of Bartolomé Masó municipality, Granma Province.
Major General Calixto García was surrounded in this place on October 5, 1874. In such an unequal encounter and faced with the possibility of being taken prisoner, he preferred suicide and after spending all his cartridges, the so-called "food shot" was applied". He shot himself in the palate with his revolver, without being able to achieve his objective, and seriously wounded, he was captured by the Spanish troops commanded by Francisco Ariza Gómez.
They first took him to the town of Veguitas, where the Spanish military doctors saved his life and from there he was transferred to Manzanillo, then to Santiago de Cuba and finally to Havana.
