The Pilar de Jucaibama Old Mill is located in the Pompita Popular Council, Bayamo, Granma.
The relevance of these ruins lies in the fact that they belonged to the patriot Francisco Vicente Aguilera Tamayo, founder of the Revolutionary Committee of Bayamo and initiator of the heroic deed of 1868. It was one of the most important sugar factories established in the vicinity of Bayamo, and its owner an exponent of a modernizing thought that reached other branches of society.
In the ruins of the Ingenio Nuestra Señora del Pilar de Jucaibama two of the chimneys or towers prevail, (with ordinary bricks of about 36cm long x 18 cm wide and 5 thick, placed by means of a mixture of lime and sand), whose coating mortar is partially fallen; On a side face there are elements spaced throughout the main tower, denoting its belonging to a lightning rod. Vertical cracks can be seen in the upper part and remains of brick walls appear from what was the old semi-underground installation of boilers and machinery.
It was the most productive mill in the Bayamo jurisdiction before the start of the 1868 war. It is an example of the modernizing thinking of Francisco Vicente Aguilera, initiator of the Cuban war of independence.
