Jose joaquin palma

José Joaquín Palma, (Bayamo, 1844 - Guatemala, 1911) Cuban poet.  His political activity in favor of the independence of his country forced him into exile, which conditioned a poetic work, which, on the other hand, is part of the second romantic generation and stands out for its colorful and melodic character.

The life of José Joaquín Palma appears intimately linked to the Cuban revolutionary movement that was to culminate in the proclamation of independence.  In 1868 he participated in the uprising led by Carlos Manuel de Céspedes, of whom he was an assistant for some time.  Editor of El Cubano Libre, he later carried out various missions for the Republic in arms.
